Based on the analyses of urban transition, this paper looks into the diversity and contradiction of the architectural aesthetics in an age of consumerism. It critically explores the impacts of dominant political—capitalpowers upon architectural aesthetics during the transition from industrial cities to consumerist ones, and then concludes the fundamental characteristics of contemporary architectural aesthetics. This paper accepts the likely irreconcilable inconsistencies in the variety of aesthetics and individual comprehension, while it still advocates the public character of architecture which should be its response and direction to public life in the first place. |
