| 1934年，由建筑师奚福泉设计的上海虹桥疗养院落成。该建筑充分考虑功能需要，外观呈现“国际式”特征，被建筑史学家普遍认为是中国近代史上“最具代表性的现代主义建筑”。本文回溯虹桥疗养院建设的历史背景、业主身份和建筑师的设计思想，对建筑作品的空间和形式展开阅读，通过案例探讨深入认识中国近代建筑发展特征的研究方法。同时，本文以追溯西方现代运动的思想渊源和实践的多样性，从比较分析中对现代建筑的核心理论——功能主义在观念构成与形式探索间的复杂关系展开一次批判性讨论。 |

| Because of its well organized functions and the obvious ‘International Style’, the Shanghai Hongqiao Sanatorium, designed by architect Ede Fohjien Godfrey（Xi Fuquan）and completed in 1934, has been famed by architectural historians as one of the fi rst and most Modernist architecture in early 20th Century in China.By tracing the historical context, the idea of the client and the experience of the architect of this Sanatorium, this paper has given a close reading of its architectural design and tries to show that a case study could be a kind of approaches in exploring the richness of architectural history.Meanwhile, with a brief re fl ection on the ideology of Modern Movement and a recalling of the diversity of Modern Architecture in the western world, the author tends to raise a critical discussion on one of the key theories of Modernism, the Functionalism, the complicated relationships between ideas and forms developed by this theory. |
