| In order to clarify the introduction and development of a specific idea called ‘urban design’, this paper analysis the entire forming process of modern planning system in Japan, which started from the end of 19th century, experienced the founding of its education programs and discipline from 1940s to 1960s, and developed into a new form of local-based Machizukuri idea nowadays. |
