| Sketches and drawing are important intermediaries of Louis Kahn’s image thinking and architectural
philosophy. For him, travel sketch is both an integral part of visual creation and an important source of architectural
thought. The three trips to Europe that Kahn experienced in the 1920s and 1950s had a profound influence on his
architectural concept. The article traces Kahn’s European travel in dual context of art history and architectural history,
analyzes the theme, techniques and concepts of his travel sketches and drawings, through the parallel relationship
between travel sketches and architectural thought, explore Kahn’s modern thinking which is based on historical architecture. |
