| After an overview of the establishment of the Japanese cultural property system from 1897 to 1950,
the author introduces the expansion of cultural property protection to folk houses, modern buildings, traditional
buildings zoon, craftsmanship, registration of cultural assets, and cultural landscape under the framework of the
“Cultural Property Protection Law” enacted in 1950. Secondly, the author analyzes the significance of the “Nara
Declaration” aimed at the authenticity of wooden cultural relics. Finally, the author mentions the latest trends since
2008 that uses tangible and intangible cultural heritages and life itself comprehensively to reuse the historical
buildings, and the new concepts such as “Japanese heritage”. |
