| This paper explores a critical dialogue between the critical regionalism discourse from the west and a
comparative study of the two campuses of China Academy of Art in Hangzhou. On the one hand, it reviews a history of ‘Critical Regionalism’ and its discontent–in and especially after the 1980s; on the other, it examines the two
campus designs of Hangzhou in their differing attempts to reconstruct local traditions. A two-way critical observation is made out of these two parallel developments. With this, a mapping is attempted to capture some most
noted designs in China today. |
