| The quotation marks which are placed around the translations of the terms can help to draw the
reader‘s attention to the thoughts of the cross-cultural relations between Eastern and Western architecture and
the intentions of the author. Hence the quotation marks in Liang Ssu-cheng’s In Search of Ancient Architecture
in North China which indicated the cross-cultural concerns between the East and the West played an important
role in exploring the methods of the translation of Chinese architectural terms. Through the review of the motives,
functions and influences of the quotation marks around the translations of Chinese architectural terms, this article
makes effort to reveal the original contribution of the communication between Eastern and Western architectural
culture which was made by Liang Ssu-cheng. |
