| 梁思成的英文著作《图像中国建筑史》是中国学者完成的第一部外文中国建筑史著作，在中国现代学术史上具有里程碑的意义。由于预设的受众不同，该书在体例、材料以及叙述方式上，与梁思成在同一时期用中文所写的《中国建筑史》均有区别。其中最大的是，这些材料的呈现是以视觉方式为主，文字为辅。书中多种建筑再现方式包括摄影、测绘图、速写、模型和渲染图，并结合有一些中英双语图注。通过研究梁思成建筑再现的语境，本文作者指出，这些图像在书中汇聚成为一个观念表达的整体，从多角度再现了中国建筑，其中包括它原有的辉煌，它所具有的结构理性，它与西方古典建筑在设计原理上的相似性和平等性，它在近代遭遇的破坏，以及中国的学者正在为抢救和复兴这一伟大艺术传统所付出的积极努力。 |

| A Pictorial History of Chinese Architecture by LIANG Ssu-ch’eng was the first book of its kind to be written in a foreign language by a Chinese scholar，and is thus a landmark work in modern Chinese academic history. In targeting at a different readership，this work varies in a number of aspects from LIANG’s Chinese-Language book A History of Chinese Architectural History, which was written during the same period. Its most unique characteristic is in the use of visual materials，including photos，measured drawings，sketches，ink-renderings，and a model in addition to bilingual captions and glossaries. Taking into account of the context of LIANG’s images，this paper argues that，LIANG’s images as an expressional whole，represented Chinese architecture from multiple angles, including its past glory，its structural rationality，its similarity with western classical architecture in terms of module design，the dilapidation or destruction it has suffered during the modern era，and the effort paid by Chinese scholars for the protection and revitalization of this great art tradition. |
