      作为近代曾身任将作且较早具有建筑学视野的代表性人物,朱启钤为何要发起辑录古代工艺之事杰出人物的 言行事迹?这其中的用意,依据他本人在《哲匠录》“叙例”中的话,一为“表彰前贤”,一为“策励后生”。就前者而言, 以哲匠为名,可通过对该词固有寓意的发覆,最大限度地囊括古代工艺之事中的各类人物,并尽力罗致有关其禀赋才 智的记载;而就后者来说,所谓“策励后生”则是意图经由上述努力,使本土新兴之建筑学者认识并传承古代智慧,以 达至“沟通儒匠,浚发智巧”或“汇通文化史”的目标。由此,该著作的主旨或可以被诠释为包含有“何为哲匠”与“哲匠 何为”两个要义:前者为朱启钤遴选人物时的标尺,体现出他对于土木营造乃至工艺之事参与者所涵盖之类型以及所 发挥之作用的体察;而后者则反映出他在建筑学引入中国的背景下对于土木传统之命运的忧患意识,寄托了他透过哲 匠视角使不同层面之传统智慧得以呈现,并将其融会贯通的期望。将经由对《哲匠录》上述两个要义的讨论,使朱启 钤等近代学者在20 世纪初所着力复兴的哲匠话语及其所承载的学术理想在当代得到彰显。
英文摘要:
      Being the officer with the perspective of architecture who once served in Tumu organization, Why CHU ChiChien initiated compiling of master craftsmen (ZheJiang) in China history? Maybe the readers can find the answer in the Preface of Collected Biographies of Master Craftsmen , which was summed up as “commending the predecessors and inspiring the offspring”. As for the former one, being titled with ZheJiang and through the interpretation of the meaning of that discourse, Chu and his colleagues made effort to collect the biographies of the ones who were notable for the words and deeds about Tumu activity. While as for the latter, they expected the emerging architectural scholars to comprehend the knowledge of ZheJiang for its figurative meaning which covers a wide range of careers such as outstanding officers, scholars, craftsmen etc., and to increase their capabilities accordingly. Hence the purport of that book can be concluded as two points, one is who can be deemed as ZheJiang, the other is what is the purpose of collecting ZheJiang. This article will make efforts to discuss the above two points so as to strengthen the revival of the discourse of ZheJiang which embodied the academic ideals of Chu and his colleagues in early 20th century.
