| This paper focuses on the integration of building service system and structure system. First，based on case studies and interviews，Swiss architect Christian Kerez’s Leutschenbach School in Zurich and the competition proposal for the VRT media center in Belgium are compared. By analyzing the design strategies of the integration of structure and service system in the two cases，the paper presents two opposite design concepts that expand the theoretical boundaries—compact or flexible，and reveals relative balance of the two systems. Then，the article articulates how the system confliction can be an opportunity for design. Finally，the paper summarizes design methods of the two systems integration，emphasizing the systematic thinking throughout from the initial design concept to the specific building component level design，providing guidance for current design practice. |
