| Architect Victor Gruen is a key figure in the study of the origin and development of shopping malls and pedestrian streets，and he is also an almost forgotten second-generation modernist architect. In his design the pedestrian public space Mall in shopping malls has not only become an important part of urban public space but has even become a driving force for urban development. This article introduces Gruen’s architectural thought development process and stylistic features of his works. Then it analyses the main thought stages and related works from modernism to “Mall becomes the heart of the city”，as well as the influence and limitation of Gruen’s thought. |
