| The book review analyzes the problem awareness, audience setting and purpose, professional background, text structure and characteristics, and core academic contributions of the book A Story of Prefectural Capitals: Modernization of 47 Cities in Japan. This book is not only a summary of Professor Nishimura's career experience, but also an academic achievement combining the theory and practice of heritage conservation in Japan's historical towns. It not only provides a research method （"bone phase"） that conforms to the characteristics of Japanese urban historical space structure, but also summarizes and refines the common points of Japanese urban modernization. In addition, the author adopts the writing method of telling the story of the city and subtly teaching the city residents the professional method of cognition of the city. This method not only reflects the fact that the protection of urban heritage in Japan takes community-based planning as the main practice method，but also reflects the method characteristic of focusing on building consensus in practice. |
