This article examines the teaching practices and relevant materials of LIU Shiying,a pioneer in architectural education,after his departure from Suzhou Industrial Specialized School. It includes his involvement in secondary education at Zhonghua Vocational School and Daxia Middle School from 1930 to 1934,the period of higher education exploration at Hunan University between 1934 and 1953,and the mature period of promoting architectural discipline development at Hunan University spanning 1953 to 1973. The article analyzes the distinctive characteristics of his overall teaching experiences and his architectural pedagogical philosophy. Concurrently)it unveils his aspirations for societal reform and driving China’s architectural modernization. This exploration is intertwined with a multi-dimensional educational approach aligned with the realities of China’s society, as well as his prolonged architectural teaching commitment within the Civil Engineering Department. These ideologies underscore the cultivation of architectural talents with comprehensive qualities and practical problem-solving skills,serving as enlightening principles for China’s contemporary architectural education. |
