The traditional rural areas in the Ba-Shu region primarily exhibit dispersed living patterns, while the familial connections behind these scattered residences have long been overlooked by researchers. The insufficient study regarding the formation and characteristics of these dispersed villages has made their preservation challenging. This article, based on an extensive investigation into the vernacular architecture and settlements in the Ba-Shu region, uncovers a significant instance of a clan dispersed village situated in Luxian County, Sichuan Province—the Qu Settlement. The author conducted a census and historical research on the relatively abundant material remains within this settlement. By combining the Qu family's development over nearly three centuries, ranging from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China era, the article attempts to address why clan settlements in the Ba-Shu region tend to be dispersed and explores ways to enhance familial connections within this dispersed setting. Finally, the article discusses how focusing on the integrity of dispersed villages provides insights for architectural history research and heritage preservation.
