| Charles Francis Annesley Voysey was a prominent British architect at the turn of the 20th century，hailed as a prescient modernist. He considered himself the last disciple of Pugin. His contribution to the development of the modern movement in Britain and Europe cannot be overlooked. Voysey’s architectural career was almost entirely devoted to vernacular residential architecture. He deeply interpreted the essence of medieval Gothic traditions，combined them with British national styles，and integrated elements of Eastern aesthetics and industrial design. His architectural practice has been an inspiration for modernism. This paper takes Voysey as the object of study to explore how he carries on between tradition and modernity，continues the tradition without being trapped in historicism，or will inspire the historical continuity and innovative design of local architecture in China today. |
