| The rural architecture exhibition at the sixth Milan Triennale in 1936 sparked widespread interest among Italian rationalist architects in vernacular culture, driving an Italy modernism guided by vernacular tradition. This exhibition also reflected curator Giuseppe Pagano's ideal of using architecture as a tool for social reform. This paper first reconstructs the exhibition through catalogs and historical photographs; then, it analyzes the reasons behind Pagano's study of rural architecture within its historical context; and finally, it discusses the exhibition's impact and its implications for the present. |
