| Abstract：Richard Neutra’s series of residential designs and constructions in California are，in fact，manifesta-
tions of his theory of applying psychological principles to intervene in the built environment to promote human
health and well-being. However，this important concept has long been overshadowed by the “International Style”
features displayed in his works. Against the backdrop of post-war America’s psychoanalytic culture，Neutra’s resi-
dential architecture was even endowed with a certain“therapeutic”function on mental level. This paper delves into
the “therapeutic” aspects reflected in Neutra’s architecture，exploring the often-overlooked humanistic concerns of
this architect，and seeks to broaden our historical understanding of early modernist architecture. |
