| Jean-Nicolas Louis Durand was a core member of the architecture faculty at L’École Polytechnique after the French Revolution. He taught architecture for more than thirty years. In the face of the turbulence and
characteristics of L’École Polytechnic，he pioneered a unique approach to architectural design and evaluation that
differed greatly from the traditional Beaux-Art system，which not only achieved desirable results in teaching，
but also provoked enduring discussion and research at the time and for generations to come. His book Précis Des
Leçons D’architecture Données A L’École Polytechnique is an important carrier of his teaching ideas and methods，
in which a large number of plates （planche）is a direct embodiment of his basic ideas and methods. Based on
the characteristics of Durand’s architectural teaching，this paper will systematically analyze Durand’s architectural thinking，teaching concepts and design methods embodied in these planchet through the three parts of the
work：elements，composition and examples. |
