| William le Baron Jenney was an American architect who founded the Chicago School and is known as the "father of American skyscrapers". He has made outstanding achievements in the fields of engineering structure, landscape design and town planning. He was not only the founder of the Chicago School, but also an outstanding educator and industry mentor, who had a profound impact on the Chicago School and the modern architecture community as a whole. Jenney is widely credited with being the first in architectural history to use a metal frame as a load-bearing structure for a tall building, and his revolutionary design in structure and advancement in materials, technology and equipment for buildings made the modern tall building possible. By combing the relevant literature at home and abroad, combined with the historical background of Chicago in the 19th century and the development of the Chicago School, this paper comprehensively analyzes the architect of the American architectural exploration movement, which is helpful to enrich the special study of foreign architectural history and provide important references for us to understand the development of modern architecture. |
