| By studying the science of plan in modern English houses since the second half of the 19th century, this
paper provides a panorama of how the ideas of the scientification of house plan were shaped and how the relevant English theories could be related to those of contemporary Germany and France. Based on the science of plan
in modern houses, the relationship of house characters and nation states in the late 19th and early 20th century
architectural theories is discussed in the perspective of ethnology, anthropology and art history. |
